With their muscular build, Liege Fighters are one of the three oldest game fowl from Belgium dating back to the 1800s. The Liege fighters grow to 30” tall (not as tall as the Indio Gigante) and weigh up to 12 pounds. (We also have the Bruges Fighter here at Graywhale Farms. Maybe next year they can attend in Belgian Days.)

Liege Fighters don’t need to dress up like cowboys since they already have spurs! In spite of that, they are a gentle breed to humans – not to predators.

The egglaying is still unknown or agreed upon since they’ve been recently imported to the States by Greenfire Farms. However, Carolina Pines Poultry reports they get 5 large, tinted eggs a week from their hens. Like Bruges Fighters, Liege Fighters aren’t good sitters, so egg collection should be easy.

Chickie Stat

Did you know the Liege Fighter could weigh up to 12 pounds? That’s twice as heavy as an average chicken.

Liege Fighter Pullets for Sale

When searching for a pet chicken, your family should consider this rare chicken breed. The hens weigh 8 pounds and the roosters weigh 12 pounds.

If your suburban yard can accommodate a Liege Fighter, keep the rooster separate from the hens as they can be aggressive. Their US importer, Greenfire Farms states, “Despite their very intimidating appearance these birds are friendly with their human handlers. But, pity the hawk that tries to threaten a hen when a Liege rooster is on patrol.” Now, that’s reassuring.

Graywhale Farms has a mission to bring the country to the city, making families in the Midwest healthy and happy.
